Gallery Wall and Stripes

My daughters old room was getting an update from the desk, to the canvas art, dresser, and paint.  I also did a gallery wall in her room but we moved shortly after and I made another gallery wall in her new room with the same pictures.

Her Room in Our Previous House
I am no perfectionist, and although I did lay out the photos on the floor until I got an arrangement I liked, there was no measuring or laser levels involved (though they are very helpful, esp when doing a symmetrical arrangement).

I made most of the artwork myself, just using scrapbook paper or my printer.  I was on a white frame kick, but think it would look neat with varying frame finishes. And I did paint her new room the same color as in our old house, Olympic's Irish Lace.

We also made some pelmet boxes for her room.  Its so tiny that I felt like curtains would be too much, we had already painted and removed bookshelves that were in there.  I also had to sell her dresser as it would not fit in the new room (although there is a closet in there with an impressive built in organizing system) Here's the realtor's photo of the room before we bought it.

I feel slightly bad about painting over someone's artwork but we just had to make it our own.

We also painted gold stripes on her wall, to help make the room feel larger, and I moved the card
board sunburst art from the playroom to her room.

The pelmet boxes were made from foam insulation cut with a carving knife and held together with nails and fabric.  I used tacks for the trim.  The pelmets are super light and I hung them up with picture frame nails.
I loved getting her room ready for us to settle in to, and although there will soon be a day when she wants it decorated ALL her way, I was happy that after I hung the gallery wall, she sat with me and told me which were her favorite pictures:)
